it’s 2014, more or less

in 2014 i’m going to do more

real articles. news aggregators don’t deserve my valuable online ad eyeballs. they only give you a synopsis then you end up having to link to the source anyway. career and digital media related articles/blogs/op-eds are guilty of giving you a whole heap of nothing and just happening to promote the author’s workplace in the last sentence.

improv. it was fun and a nice escape from the day to day.

shows/performances. these days i really have to make an effort to catch a show, be it music, comedy or the theatre.

beach bumming. i need at least 3 beach outgoings next summer and at least one in the cold months

volunteering. i’ve done the ny cares training. time to actually sign up for something.

blogging. i have a million ideas and i think they all start with maintaining this blog a bit more regularly.

music. believe it not, i actually write music and play the piano. now that i can pay the rent and still afford to eat in nyc, i should probably devote more time to what i know is a talent i’ve been blessed with.

and no more

lists– ten reasons why, you know you’re ___ when, etc. i love a good buzzfeed list, but they’re such a time drain. one minute i,m reminiscing over my 80’s toys, next thing i’m calling mom to see if i still have that my little pony and checking ebay to see how much it’s worth. list reading must be relegated to the weekends. unless, of course, it is a list about golden retriever puppies.

googling everything and everybody. at least not at the moment i wonder about them. i think i’ll create a list and set aside specific time to get all my questions answered. it usually doesn’t really help me except to reinforce negative feelings. eg “ew, that person went to dook? no wonder i don’t like them.”

eating bad things. then complaining about it. the next time i get that little ceasar’s deep dish i better be damn ready for the consequences and not have any place to go.

watching reality show premiere epis. it will be replayed and marathoned to death. plus i have a dvr that i barely use. sun-thurs evenings can be used much more effectively given all the things i have on my “do more” list. time to take back the night! note: this is for reality shows only. scandal and the good wife will still be watched as usual.

happy new year. make it count.
